She has been the model of consistency of late with second placings at Canterbury and Warwick Farm her past two starts, so it was pleasing to see five year old mare LADY ELIZABETH go one better at Rosehill on Wednesday scoring her first metropolitan win in the Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap over 1400m.
Taking a position midfield, LADY ELIZABETH enjoyed a rails run for much of the trip. A wall of horses greeted the mare on entering the straight, however from the 300m the gaps opened and apprentice Sam Weatherley was quick to position the mare in clear running. Letting down nicely from the 200m mark, the mare was game in the shadows of the post and just held out the closing run of SCARLET DREAM with a final margin of 0.1 lengths.
Congratulations on the first city success of LADY ELIZABETH to connections Mr G C Smith, Mr D C Atkins, Mr J C Coyle, Mr R P Lawley, Mr D J Logan, Mr M J Roman, Mr A V Votino, Mr S George, Mr S P Edwards, Mrs A Leach, Mr K C Rickards and Mr D J Henry.
