It was a day for the racing history books with the champion mare WINX having her final run at Royal Randwick on Saturday, making the dual course double for the stable that little bit more memorable. Stable star WHITE MOSS showed her grit in front of the 40,000+ crowd at Randwick, winning the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes over 1200m. The grey mare by MOSSMAN and out of PAY MY BAIL has been in career best form this prep, picking up two Group 2 races in the course of three runs. The Esplin family owned and bred five year old was ridden positively by jockey Kathy O'Hara, taking a position just behind leader and last year's winner QUILISTA. The leading three runners put a good gap on the rest of the field before heading into the straight, making it a near impossible mission for the backmarkers including the stable's other runner, last start Group 3 winner SIREN'S FURY. Getting level with the leader at the top of the rise, WHITE MOSS held off the challengers to win by 0.8 lengths, taking her prizemoney total to an impressive $532,645.
Meanwhile at Newcastle YOUR WITNESS broke through for his fourth win in the Montgomery Homes Newcastle Nobbys BM 70 Hcp over 1200m. The STAR WITNESS gelding had put together a string of good performances this prep without winning, placing at all five starts this prep coming into yesterday's assignment. Coming into the straight, jockey Jess Taylor managed to find the gaps and produce the six year old at just the right moment. The gelding was wayward as he found his way to the line but Jess persevered and the duo found the line 0.27 lengths ahead of favourite DYLAN'S LUCK.
